The marine section of the Tampa NWS forecast discussion is currently calling for SCA Friday/Saturday in the Tampa Bay Area.

MARINE...
Winds and seas will be increasing with the cold front moving
through the waters tonight and showers and thunderstorms possible
today and tonight. Winds then increase to SCA levels behind the
front early Friday, and will continue through Saturday before
subsiding.

Latest forecast for Saturday is about the same NNE 14 mile per hour with some gusts of 20. This is ideal for us sailboaters:) Small Craft Advisories are predicted for Friday on NWS Tampa site, but not (as of this time) for Saturday. Bottom line: Normal cold weather front down here in Florida. Nice winds out of NNE, NE, and then shifting to East. Hug the coast and ride the winds:)
Obviously this is more of a challenge for kayakers. Just like last year was more of a challenge for sailboats....as the winds absolutely died after we left Tampa Bay and headed for CP1. Every year it is different, and as always Tampa Bay is one of the "filters" that Chief has put in our Challenge. And, it is a Challenge.....a challenge is not for everyone. The infamous year of the debacle in the bay has been mentioned, and is on folks' mind. We beat that dead horse immensely right after the event. Some entrants weren't prepared and they caused an issue, in addition to some beach followers who got every local rescue unit involved....when calls weren't needed. Enough on that, the inspection standards have been tightened up.....so entrants should be ready.
We'll continue to watch the weather and discuss with others, but I'll stay positive and see everyone at the beach.

Been checking the Sunday/Monday forecasts for Florida Bay. The gate to the East bound route will be closed from Saturday night to at least Tuesday. Winds 20-25 kts from the NE settling to E Saturday night.
The speedy ones (race cats and Spawn) will have to be going the long route, given low water and headwinds.
