   Hello Watertribers,

    

   Getting ready to do a loop around the southern tip of Florida, from Punta Gorda down across the lake to the east coast, down to the Keys, then back up to PG. We want to do at least some of the Wilderness Waterway, but this is a powerboat that may not be able to make it.

    

   The guide says boats over 18' long and/or with tall appendages should not attempt it. The boat we are using is 27 feet long, but is a unique craft and may be able to make it.

    

   What I am looking for is current info on the state of the overhanging mangroves and the width of the narrow parts. The boat is 8.5 feet wide, but has twin engines and is very maneuverable. Hull draft is about 3-4 inches, engine draft about a foot.

   The only part you won't be able to do is "Nightmare"

   But I hope you realize that if you do the inside route, there is a dam at Flamingo that prevents you from getting from Florida Bay into the Buttonwood canal . You'll have to do that portion on the outside, unless you have some sort of trailer to portage you over the dam.

   A nice stretch of the WW you might consider is from Chokoloskee thru the back bays via the waterway down to Camp Lonesome, and then come out Broad River back onto the Gulf.

   Jack, I believe that last leg is a non-powerboat area. In any case, we were considering entering the WW via the Shark or Little Shark rivers.

    

   Keith, you have it backwards, we're going north up the west coast after going south down the east coast. And check your pm's over on the Hobie forum.

   Either way, Chok to Broad or Broad to Chok, it is a beautiful trip.  I'm not familiar w/ the WW from Shark R to Nightmare, so can't comment on that.

   Well trying to be nice as I have been instructed to be. (notcice I did not say this is a non motorized site. with somneone that will never give us any feed back???)

   Ya  can do all of it except the Nightmare and Broad Creek.

   All the back country sites are (sigh)  motor boat acc. Run SS props. I ran Spinelli props for ever down there and killed a bunch of oysters.

   Post pictures or acc. on the Tribe site or a blog. Would Be cool to see it in fast montion again.

   Well, we got to Pahokee and saw the weather forecasts and ran like crazy for home! The Wilderness Waterway will have to wait for more appropriate weather.
