Recommendations on an epirb model for use in a kayak for the challange?
Thank you,
Colorado
I have SPOT for the Boat and ACR Aqualink View PLB350C for the PFD. Love the SPOT and use it all year long. Hope that I never have to use the ACR. I did spring for the "helicopter insurance" for both units so there will be many people looking for me if things go bad. I like Chief's thoughts on two is one and one is none... Carry two Garmin GPS units for the same reasons
hope this helps

With all respect to Chief- if you have an ACR PLB you are covered.
SPOTS have failed, I know they are not "Snore-proof". I have used ACR PLBs on several ECs and my UC, it is now on my sailboat as an extra to my EPIRB. I have never heard of an ACR PLB or EPIRB failing-- disclaimer, when I raced WT events ACR used to sponsor me.
I have the original SPOT, model a, or whatever it is called. I've had it for 6-10 yrs. It has never failed, and it has never been babied. It is smart to have both a SPOT and a PLB. I think PLBs are activated much less than SPOT devices. I would like to think that PLBs are fail-proof, but I'm not sure we know.

When my ACR ResQLink needed a new battery, I sprang for the new Ocean Signal PLB1 instead. ACR acquired Ocean Signal soon after this product was released.
Cost is about $275 and features a seven year battery! This thing is tiny -- you'll never notice it on your PFD. I don't think you can go wrong with the ACR ResQLink either.
The McMurdo Fast Find is popular with some of my kayaking friends in the UK. It looks like a solid choice as well, but I don't have any personal experience with it.

We have the McMurdo Fast Find and actually activated it when we demasted a few miles offshore of Shark River in 2013. It fits in a life vest pocket and was easy to deploy. Most of all, it worked.
