   I just got a phone call from a watertriber saying he thinks 2 things.  firstly...a weatherhold due to wind and secondly, after last year with the rescues ,,that the coast gaurd is saying no to the permit, or something to that effect...no launching if wind over something like 16, no launching if waves over 2 ft.  Got to have a chase boat...Stuff like that.

    

   Anyone heard anything?

   Correction. there were no issues with the permit from cg. I spoke directly with chief. he did say at the cap meeting thathe we will delay for small craft advisory.

   SCA in effect currently thru Sunday 5 am; winds not "predicted" to let up till Monday. This is a tough situation for race management; glad I am not in their shoes. I am considering "DNS" and pushing on tomorrow as I have to work next week. Or, start at Cp1?

   Dunno how to fix this; but I am on a paddling vacation...this does not compare to Lake Michigan in October with snow n 30kt winds with Seiche & average wave height of 9 feet (probably shud have stayed on beach then

   Of course....Coast Guard can't stop individual boats from going out.  Can't in anyway see that someone like Randy Smyth would be intimidated by the projected wind.  Very few watertribers are not capable of self rescue.

   Sorry to hear this. I was planning to go up and watch the start tomorrow.

   I may go anyway. But how will I know when to leave if the racers don't?

   If you see a guy wandering the beach wearing a fishing hat with a GoPro mounted on the bill, that's me, Speck Tater.

   The thing about boats and trailers is, they have to be somewhere. If Punta Gorda sounds like a good place for one to land temporarily, I have plenty of space to park them.

   We are waking up on time and planning for the best tomorrow morning whatever that means. It isn't Chief's fault the winds are high so I agree it's a tough spot for him. Cancelling the race officailly and letting everyone continue with their vacations may be the best option from liability standpoint. Used to be "events will not be cancelled to do weather" but the wind and waves were quite strong today and I have no doubt in my mind that some of the boats on the beach would not have made it across Tampa Bay had they launched today. As is the case every year, not everyone makes it. Of course we should also remember that those who may need rescue will call upon their rescuers to put their own safety at risk in their efforts so launching in high winds should not be taken too lightly.

   I've checked 5 weather reports. 12-22 depending on who you believe. My NOAA app says small craft advisory until Sunday at 5am, but going to NOAA web site says it was just until 7 pm tonight. I guess we will find out about 7 am on Saturday!
