I am a bit confused rugarding resupply during the Ultimate Florida Challenge. In reading SharkChow's book he mentions a whole bin of resupply items like batteries, maps, food etc delivered to him at the checkpoints. I can't find any rules that specify where and what resupply items are allowed during the UFC. There is some mention in the current rules that the Watertribe official or a competitors assistant may be available to assist in resupply at Fort Clinch, but I can't find any specifics.

My understanding is that we are allowed to re-provision at the staging areas (KL, SI, FC, CK), but nowhere else unless there are extenuating circumstances (safety, health related etc.) in which case the race manager can make an exception. Of course you can always beg, borrow and steal from the locals and/or fellow competitors. Just nothing that's pre-arranged. But as fast as you are, SewSew, what's your concern? Surely you'll be able to carry three days worth of supplies to get you around the state :-)

When SharkChow did the UF in 2006, you are correct in that there were blue bins/barrels for each participant for resupply at the stage points. The logistics of having the bins at various stage points when each person arrived was probably a bit much --- truck or large vehicle needed to carry all the bins --- assuring they'd be at each checkpoint within a reasonable amount of time after participants arrived --- getting someone else to pick up a couple of bins and get them to those who were far ahead/behind others. While it would be nice, I can see why Chief dropped it.

I believe your support person can take you for resupply, but they may need approval from the CP Manager first. I'm not sure they can resupply you (bring you pre-arranged food/items) - only drive you to, say, a Publix, West Marine, or WalMart for resupply - or laundromat ... or watch your boat while you take their car to go resupply. Hopefully Chief will pop in here to clarify.

If you check Google Earth, there are a number of food stores, one or two WalMarts, and a couple of West Marines along the way where it would be safe to leave a boat (I would, however, take your electronics with you) for a short jaunt to the store to resupply yourself.

So, SewSew, are you going to need five or six hoagies taped to your bowsprit to make it around the state?

My understanding was pretty much anything goes at the full checkpoints, KL, SI, FC, CK regards help, you can get help you need from anyone, doesn't have to be a pre-designated support person, no manager approval required. Rather than waste time with shopping at a checkpoint, I"m prepacking what I'll need at each checkpoint, much like the bags I packed in 2006 (except for any perishables) . I'll provide these to my support person to give me at the checkpoints.

This is different from 2006 when even at the checkpoints you were not allowed help from anyone (outside of a CP manager) but you could have this prepacked bag.

The 2006 rules turned out to be a nightmare for managing the race.

For 2006 and beyond the rules are that each stage point is treated just like Key Largo. You can have family or friends meet you at stage points. They can resupply you or take you to the local Walmart or Publix or anyplace else you need to go. You can get a room or go out to eat.

While in the Stage 4 section you can exercise the Daniel Boone or Wheenie option and have people meet you anywhere to swap your boat or even give you a ride. See more on this in the Ultimate Florida Challenge section of the site.

But we realize that some people might not have anyone to meet them at the stage points. In that case the Stage Point Captain or the Race Manager can lend assistance. The downside here is that I have not had a good responce for volunteers so I might have to drive a considerable distance as you all get spread out. Use any waiting time productively.

At Sebastian, can a support person enter the park at any time of the day or night and hang out at the boat ramp waiting for you to come in? ... just in case I can talk my support person into meeting me there for food and battery resupply even if it's 1am on a weekend night.
