As of right now, ManitouCruiser is making his way up the Detroit River towards Lake St Clair...
After paddling zero times during the month of August, I thought I was doing pretty good with three weekends in a row of 20 mile day paddles. ManitouCrusier is making my day paddles look like little day paddles.
What really caught my attention was the fact he started his paddle at one of my regular put ins. I had to take a 2nd look. Its nice to know another watertriber, is paddling up my way. During his paddle around Michigan, he is going to experience some really good water. Exceptional fresh clean Michigan water, and long sandy beaches. Doing it during the month of October, he should run into some really big conditions. Lake Michigan is cold even in July. Its a nice challenge.
I see he is still moving as of 8:55 in the Detroit River. He is going against a decent current, and many miles of engineered sea walls / no take outs / and bad camp options. With Canada on the right side, he can only pull out on the Detroit side. Now that could be a real adventure. If he can even find a take out without, that area is scary even inside a car.
Manitou is pulling an all nighter, not planning on stopping anytime soon; you can follow his SPOT and check in on the Kruger Canoe Adventure Blog
For those that are new to the Tribe and KCA; we don't take ourselves too seriously in our reporting on the blog or FB; more of an entertainment piece with factoids scattered about to keep the loved ones at home entertained.
Facts can be so miss leading while rumors so revealing ...

I came here to post this, glad to see it's already up.
ManitouCruiser is a beast! Looks like he's gone 24 hours without stopping and has just now cleared Lake St. Clair.
Looks like he finally is taking a break... 36 hours straight for ~86 miles.
The temps dropped today and the highs will be ~60F for the next few days. Perfect paddling weather :)
After waiting out some weather over the weekend, Manitou is back at it. Today he made a huge crossing across Saginaw Bay and is now approaching Thunder Bay.
for scale... the crossing above is ~35 miles...
CWolfe and I paddled the Suwannee to finish.
Manitou diverted to the Indian River waterway due to high winds in the straits. He made it to Lake Michigan, but there are gale warnings in effect through Tuesday. He continues to be optimistic, and continued through the day on foot, portaging his Sea Wind on the cart on a coastal road. He has one more week to get to the Michigan/Indiana border, but conditions look very rough on Lake Michigan as far as the forecast goes out. Hard core!

It's a very blustery night here on our side of the Mitt. Hoping to see Mark on our stretch of shoreline this week. Watching the track is a lesson in how to work with the weather you get. Be safe!
If in the UF it's blowing a gale from the north and Manitou takes to walking up A1A instead of paddling, does anyone see a problem with that? Not me.
I'm feeling pretty inadequate by comparison watching his progress. I don't think ever walked 30 miles in a day, much less walking and dragging my boat along with me. Nothing short of remarkable. Respect.
