Looking at google earth, is the finish line the huge boat ramp on the west side of the causeway just over the bridge?
Mike: ok, I'll sure try to remember to do that. Thanks!
BustedRudder: yes that sounds correct (N27.6473, W82.7160).
so what was that little detour over by Indian Shores? Did they drop something?
Looks like they are tacking downwind for max VMG. Winds are pretty light and to fly an assymetric spinnaker for best VMG, you need to sail with the apparent wind forward. Heading up increases the distance, but the extra speed through the water more than makes up for it. Sailing deep is slooooow.
Mosquito, USS Ft DeSoto here. You are clear to land. Call the ball.
Landing gear deployed, get ready to set the parking brake
Heading up to greet them along with my shore contact person, Deena. Will miss their landing (had bank business to tend to) but I'm sure they'll still be unpacking. What a run! Awesome sailing machine - totally impressed. Slide on in to the finish, guys! See ya in a short.
Please someone give them a big hug from me!

Woo Hoo! almost done
Way to go!
CONGRATULATIONS to you both! You guys made it look easy!
It was great watching them cross the bay, they both looked very good at the finish full of smiles and I'm sure glad to have completed the UF.
Congratulations SandyBottom and SOS. It's been a true pleasure to follow your efforts; to wonder and worry about what's happening; to read your running commentary and view the photos and videos, and to see you overcome everything and complete the UFC.
SB, SOS & DWSB, All the work and effort has come to a climactic finish. Now the memories go on forever. In all my following and searching for more information on this challenge, the competitors and the history, I was delighted to learn that these challenges are historically family events for you three. Planning and preparing for and facing these challenges as a family with common passions and goals sounds like a dream come true.
KB: I got there after Chief, WhiteCaps, and BustedRudder left, but gave Dawn and Alan a big hug for you and told them you sent it.
They were still in the throes of unpacking and disassembling everything. Not sure how they're going to fit all that equipment in their vehicle, but DWSB assured me it could be done. They're plan is to get out of Tampa and find a quiet motel en route to land for the night.
Hugely appreciated, Kathy! I'm looking forward to seeing them very soon, once they get home.

SandyBottom & SOS congrads on your win.
Now when do the rest of us get to see the pictures of your arrival? Has anyone posted any?
Here's a couple of quick, Blackberry-quality videos of the intrepid duo landing at Ft. Desoto:
I'll post pictures on my blog at http://claritysailingadventures.wordpress.com within the next 24 hours!
My kids must be thinking "dad finally lost it" as I'm clapping and cheering in front of my PC watching the videos. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the video, Mike. SO jealous that I can't be there! (The idea of moving to FL is getting more and more appealing!) What a great achievement for these two. I feel so happy for them!
Congratulations SandyBottom and SOS on winning your class. Great teamwork to overcome what the UF had to offer this year. Alan it was great to see your boat in person as photos don't do it justice.
Congratulations Alan and Dawn - can't wait to read your stories about the trip!
Congratulations to everyone who made it to the starting line at Ft. DeSoto for the March 3rd start !
Today I've posted a few more final photos for Team B&B on their blogs.
I'll leave it to them to organize the videos that they and other made of their adventure race.
