For those of us fortunate enough to be pushing off the beach this year let's remember those who are subject to lockdowns and all the other challenges of the past year. Let's do this for ourselves and for them. I'm carrying an albatross for Chris from the UK who is stuck inside but will be watching everything that is posted. I think we should raise a glass to all those friends and fellow challengers who can't make it!

Very nice, Guitarman. Who will carry a couple of kiwis for our New Zealand friends?
All will be honoring the memory of our late ManitouCruiser and SailorMan on their event shirts.

I agree. I'll be thinking of them. Kindred Spirits for sure.

I have kept in touch with JohnnyMac. I will do something special for our Kiwi friends.Posted 1 month ago # -
Muchas gracias, Guitarman! I expect that there are a good number of us who are simply not in a position to risk becoming either a victim or a vector of covid-19. Its very hard to be limited to lurking about on this forum, but the BBC may well be post vaccine and offers a glimmer of hope! Best of luck this year; you have a great boat for it. Class 4 rules!

I went in search of plastic Kiwi bird lawn ornaments for Southern Cross and I have come to the conclusion that there must be some rule or law on taste for New Zealanders (unlike Florida,) that they are not allowed to be made.
There will be some Kiwi Bird stickers for representing JohnnyMac and Robman on the boat.
See everyone at the start!

Stumbling,
Here's an inflatable Kiwi Bird that might put Fred the Flamingo to shame, and just might serve you as emergency flotation: https://www.jetcreations.com/collections/animals-dinosaurs/products/an-kiwi

Thankyou Guitarman; you are a true kindred spirit.
So sorry 'Southern Cross' and our support crew can't make it this year. It's not that we cannot get into USA but return to NZ might take 3 months!
We are always thinking of all the friends we made and the beautiful Florida west coast during our EC 2020 trip, it just shows how special this event is. We will be back sometime in the future until then fair winds and steady seas to you all.
Lots of love Robman, Carolyn, Johnny and Leslie.Posted 1 month ago # -
KV, your Googlefu is amazing!!!
Just the right touch for Southern Cross!

So, I admit my 'mommy' is still giving me instructions on adulting, but we were discussing Sailorman the other day. She is over the top concerned about me running this race (or driving, or slipping in the shower, etc). I told her that I would rather see the end of my life during a glorious adventure than during an extended stay at a retirement home, covered in baby food and not knowing where I am.
Memories are all we take with us, and I will always respect the fact that Sailorman had the courage to go out alone, at his age, and brave something that he had wanted for a long time. That is the epitome of a Watertriber I think.
May God bless us all with that courage, and the memories that go with it. Though I didn't know him, I WILL be carrying him with me this year. As a kindred spirit.
