I left the event open for registration because I still want to do this. Even with the very restrictive rules for the region I think we can have an interesting event. I've been researching the Voyageurs for a bit and they were a fascinating group that would fit right in with WaterTribers.
When I was first setting up the boat classes, one of the reasons for class 1 having downwind sails were the voyageurs who would pop a sail whenever they could.
The route we will be using is a portion of one of the main Voyageur routes. When you are cursing on the Grand Portage, don't blame me - blame them.
Here is the issue. We have to have our permit information ready by the last week in January. That means we have to have everyone signed up and assigned to groups by early January. In order to make this a viable event we need at least six groups of 8 to 9 paddlers in up to 4 canoes or kayaks. By moving the dates before Labor Day this should make the event doable for a larger number. Also, if there was ever a WaterTribe Challenge appropriate for a family, this is it. It will be difficult but not impossible. I also am not going to insist that every group is completely filled. Most campsites are best with two or maybe three tents so plan accordingly.
Although the signup window is short, there is plenty of time to get ready and train.
