While working on another vessel in the fleet I opened my EC spares box looking for a screw. Opening the waterproof box I was hit with an odor that is a combination of spares, first aid kit, and fire starter. A unique smell just for the challenge. My mind raced back to some shallow bay in florida bay and the nightmare of trying to beat against the wind in that endless maze of shallows. It is funny how just a whiff some chemical combination can can whisk you out of your present world and land you in a different place. You never really can't stop thinking about this once you have done it, but just a whiff of a certain chemical combination can throw you back right into the middle of it. DWM

Can you smell that smell......DWM, good to see you're back on the island, I'll swing by one day. Been here about a month, cleaning up and a little power boating. I'm about to uncover La Perla which spent the summer in the barn. All my EC gear is in a storage room that I call the chandlery....smells a little like tarred marlin.....and I opened the waterproof box that has flares, first aid kit, spare knife and light....I could smell that smell. The smell thing is funny. Getting on the ketch with a whiff of diesal, musty boat, and a faint hint of sewage always felt like coming home. On another note swing by and check out the latest member of the fleet. Anywhere else than pine island the homeowners association or county would go apeshit. Neighbors are actually excited on the project. Glad to be back in redneck paradise!DWM

We went sailing with a friend who brought a 12 year old grandson. He said that our cabin smelled like pizza. I'm not sure how fermenting bilge water smelled like pizza, but that is putting a positive spin on it. Some times a smell can take you back to a memory.
