Hah! Worked fine for me. It starts with Spawn towing their array of rollers out of the picture.
For Tribers who don't use Facebook, if a boat that looked like this appeared next to you at some point, there's a really good chance a picture of your boat can be found in this public album.

AndyMan, you should bring your son and his drone along next year to document the whole challenge!
Speck, many thanks for the pictures.

Thank you Spec; those pictures on the water are a rare treat.

We all love the drone footage, but do not forget that they are illegal at Ft DeSoto with out the proper permits. The Ranger, and the Sheriffs Deputy that was there were looking for both pilots for tickets.
That put our Racemom in a bit of a pickle that morning, having to worry about that..

The Ranger and Sheriff eventually located Drew as well, no ticket.
There certainly must be more pressing issues like parking on the grass, overflowing trashcans, and Coasties playing "Mission Impossible" too loud.
This may necessitate Drew flying it from our power boat next year, however cool that may seem, logistically it seems like a PIA...
And yes, his Phantom 4 is registered with the FAA.

AndyMan, the Speck Tater has a large landing area forward that is already drone-tested. Maybe I can help with logistics...
I'm not sure exactly what's legal in that area.
My drone-flying friend told me that his came from the manufacturer (also DJI, I think) with no-fly zones like parks disabled. Its GPS knows it is in a park and it won't fly.
He flew his drone up to our boat from behind last Thanksgiving. Suddenly, my wife and I both heard a noise behind us that our nearly-new Tohonda outboard should NOT be making and looked back. Took a (very long) second to realize we were being buzzed. We knew who it was so were amused but drones can be annoying and intrusive.

Speck,
Thanks for your offer, will keep you in mind, Drew's going to be a Freshman at FSU next year so it's anybody's guess if he will be able to make it, I sure hope so.
My bucket list dream is for he and I to do it together one year, he's a heck of a sailor and this is something that I hope we can experience together.

Well, I bought a drone last summer, which I have dubbed Tater Force 1.
It's a used DJI Phantom 4 Advanced. Has the same camera as the P4 Pro but does not have sideways and backward-facing sensors.
It takes nice pics!
I hear the drums this time of year but I am not filled with an urge to boat until I hallucinate from exhaustion. I get the urge to watch people in strange boats do that! And now the urge to take pics and video of that activity with my drone.
So Speck Tater Boot Camp 2020 has begun and I've been practicing things like flying sideways in a semicircle, keeping the camera pointed at an object. Yesterday evening, my neighbor's dock was the object.
I doubt I'll go to the start but if you see a pontoon boat with a giant, yellow Bimini top out on the EC 2020 course you might also see a little white drone. I'll try to stay where I can't be seen or heard but it's a bit hard to hide out in the open!
