I am a proponent of placing a SPOT into a secondary clear plastic bag that enables you to hit the buttons without opening the bag. Yes there can be issues with humidity in the bag, getting into the SPOT. That can be mitigated by: 1) Slathering dielectric grease inside the SPOT. 2) Slathering dielectric grease on and around the “O-ring” where the back plate screws down. 3) By placing desiccant in the same secondary bag holding the SPOT. If you can find it and oven dry it ahead of time. Poor man technique is placing some pieces of paper towel in the secondary bag.
Ok, now that we covered the cons of secondary bags issues. The STASHER bags are what I have moved too. They are very thick and will take a considerable amount of abuse before leaking. They have a tongue and groove seal similar to the Waterford Bags. The latest size available is called the “Pocket Stasher”. The SPOT fits VERY snugly inside the 3.5 x 4.5 x 1 inch $6 Pocket Stasher.
When I say snugly, there is no room for desiccant or paper towel inside or even humidity. You will probably be cussing a little bit, getting it out to change batteries. The other issue is, how do you secure the Pocket Stasher to yourself or the boat? I used wide self adhesive velcro to the backside of the Stasher last EC. The Stacher bag is kind of oily and very slick. Adhesives do not stick to it very well. My larger Sandwich Stacher and SPOT was on the way over the side when I caught it. I am going to experiment with sanding one side of the bag to score it, then applying rubber cement. Maybe even a net bag that is secured to the boat. I will put my spare batteries in the Sandwich Bag Stasher.

The last two EC's, I wrapped my SPOT in a ZipLock snack bag, cut a small hole in the bottom cornor , tied a string to the SPOT and feed the string through the hole and secured it to my Kayak. I have a Ram mount for the SPOT, so I folded the snack bag around the SPOT and snapped it into the Ram mount. I know that doesn't make it waterproof, but it was splashproof and it worked for two EC's.
Another thing I did using a Full Circle re-useable food storage bag for my electronics was cut a small hole in the bag, ran a quick disconnect cable through the hole then I bunched up the bag around the cable used two zip ties to close up the hole where the cable came through. That way the bag was still waterproof and I could connect the quick disconnect cable to my battery and charge my cell phone or VHF radio battery while underway. I have pictures, but I can't figure out how to paste them into this dialog box.

A Zip tie or two might be the way to go. Provided I take enough for the battery changes. Yea, I can’t figure out how to post a photo here either. Oh well, it is time to take my metamuclil and turn in.
