I have been watching Sew Sew for a few hours and have noticed some strange tacks or jibes. Not sure of the wind direction. What caught my attention was he was only doing .64 knots - thats point 64 knots. Randy doesn't go that slow when Scissors is beached. I think he has an equipment problem, but he will bring it in. His OK button keeps going off when he tacks.
Sew Sew - 270 tacks to starboard?

I've been watching SewSew closely as well. His course has concerned me some but his frequent OK messages have helped. Looking forward to seeing him at CP-2!

Glad others have noticed. It looks kind of like he's heaved (hove?) to a couple of times.

I thought he was drifting due to damage. Maybe that repaired ama let go, or something. What would be his tactic to go so far out (20 miles!) west of the entrance to get to checkpoint 2? Was he avoiding the Cape Romano shoals and then planning for a quick reach to checkpoint entrance? -- Wade
PS -- Answer to myself after I thought about it -- He's in the UltraFlorida, so his first checkpoint is Key Largo and his course makes sense -- silly me!

Last update I'm seeing on Sew Sew is at 3:12 showing 6.56 knots on a southeast course. Winds there are showing 10-15 from the N.E. currently. The watertribe site updated at 4:03 but checking some of the competitors most of the latest times are much earlier. DolphinGal's shared page has not shown a position since 3:30. I wonder if the Spot system is temporarily down.

Just checked again Sew Sew at 4:10 shows a new position 25.72N 81.68W doing 4.55 knots heading due north towards the Cape Romano light. Posted by shorelady.

THIS TRIP IS NECESSARY,
Looking back at the rules, Sew Sew and all other UC ers have to complete the EC, ending at Key Largo, before going north.

DolphinGal,
Have you heard any updates on Randy? It has been over 3 hours.

No. I just checked again and the last is their position at 4:10. That is about 21 miles as the crow flies from CP2 (as measured on Google Earth. I'm hoping they arrive soon at CP2 with a problematic Spot.

Some concern.

Current tracking shows him at Choko or very close. Spot glitch apparently. Ridgerunner and Greybeard very close.

SewSew has indeed arrived at CP-2 at 20:58.

Randy mentioned somewhere, his facebook page or on another forum, that he had an auto pilot on board that he was going to use so he could nap while underway. Maybe it had a mind of it's own? Anyone at Check Point 2 got intel on what happened out there?

What's up on Sew Sew right now? Crossing Florida Bay it shows multiple Help button activations ...? Right now it looks like he is on a reef!

I had heard yesterday around 1pm from Paddledancer that the help message being sent by SewSew was a spot issue and they had heard he was ok. They said the new spot has some issues. Then I watched his course and I have been wondering whats up all night. Do sailors usually go out that far south?

The southern route is a viable option ... deep water, no sandbars or flats, clear areas, navigation is easier... but greater distance, but remember, Scissors is fast ... VERY fast, hence the distance vs time vs difficulty is an easy choice. Bumpy/Lumpy/Machoman always take the southern route. I hope he is ok and not in trouble.
