Chief, You will find the Superior Expedition Deep Dish Canoe, has a higher cockpit rim in the front and rear, to help prevent flooding. Its catamaran poles are 1 3/4 inches by six ft. Its a custom decked canoe, and can be built the way you want, as many customers do, you just need to call him by phone and discuss what you want.

Feks,
Krugers are mostly kevlar, gelcoat on the outside layer.

Feks, I believe MC just answered your question about UV protection. If I am not mistaken the gel coat is for UV protection among other things like cosmetic appearance, less resistance going thru the water and further protection from abrasion since it can easy to repair.

So total Kruger cost from what I can tell for a solo sailing setup is going to be between 9 and $10,000 depending on which sailing rig ($1800) leeboard ($315) sailing rudder ($250) Boss outrigers ($750) unless you go with Chiefs amas which is what I would do, that would add ($750) plus shipping of all including the boat. All numbers are aprox. figures but I was rounding and using what I would pick personally but 9-10K seems to be a fairly close number. Alittle less for a SE. I added some for those things like hardware etc that are always needed . Did I miss anything? For the beginners is this ballpark number close just for the boat package (personal gear, equipment not included)?

HI JollyRogers,
The price you quoted is a little high for the BSD rig and custom orders.
The price of a Balogh sail designs . 1750.00 for the 36HP Sport{2 reefs} ,leeboard and Boss outriggers.
The kit comes with mounting hardware.
BSD makes the mounting hardware and crosstube for the Chiefs ama -600.00.
The chiefs ama are extra. (call Chief for price)
All extreme gear that have been used in the FLC had no failures in the last 2 years.

Silly me I thought it was for marking my visited locations on Georgian Bay rocks.. what a horrible sound. But as another plug for the Kruger - it still looks near new regardless of how many white stripes I paint on the Canadian Shield.

Kap,
The original text, which you lined through, was a lot more factual than your factoid. The building of the Superior Expedition doesn't have anything to do with when Scott Smith acquired Sawyer molds. The Expedition was never a Sawyer canoe. Just because the production Expedition canoe didn't come out until after Verlen's passing doesn't mean Verlen could not have seen, blessed, and admired Scott's work, and congratulated him on it. I am interested in all things Expedition Canoes. Been called a Loonatic. Been called a Krugerhead. Own and have spent considerable seat time in several, so am qualified to have at least an informed opinion, at least as a customer and fan of the boats and the legend who started the legacy.
I hope "The rest of the story" comes out regarding the brand new Expedition that had cracks after 40 miles of rooftop travel. I've heard the rest of the story, but coming from me it would only be hearsay.
You can read more in my post on the Sawyer Loon thread, what I think about the Loon/Monarch/Sea Wind/Expedition boats.

the gel coat is for UV protection, but can add up to 2kg of extra whate to a kayak, im thinking of making sumthing realy light , with only kevlar and epoxy , im looking to be under 20kg fully riged .
Back on thread , the more I read about the Kruger the more I like it, its got a grate history , I dont know of meny other canoes / kayaks with the same ongoing history , ther are sume Brit sea kayaks but ther dosent seam to be the same links with a design thats basicaly remained the same.

Feks,
I had in my possession two deep dish Kruger Sea Winds that were custom made kevlar, withOUT the gel coat above the waterline. It saved a little weight but I thought of it more as a liability than a benefit in the long run. I sold those boats before doing anything to remedy the situation, but I was considering coating them with Evershield ceramic airplane coating. Ask around, about Sea Wind 105 and 106. These bone colored Sea Winds will probably show up here and there in the future.
Everyone, please don't take my posts in this and the Loon thread as negative in any way, especially towards Krugers or Mark P. That is certainly not my intent. I have and love my Sea Wind. And, in fact, I'm ground crewing this summer for a team in a brand new Kruger Cruiser, waving the Kruger flag, in the Missouri 340!

Feks,
Elsewhere in the canoe world, kevlar boats are made without gelcoat... the Wenonah Minessota 2 for example is availible in "Natural (skin coat) finish" I'm not sure what this means, but I know it isn't gelcoat. It also must be fairly light since the total canoe weight is 19kg. Good luck!

You are not doing Scott any favors by validating information that is not factual. Please understand that I paddle /camp with the Smith's, big adventures, big water; invite them to my home and likewise; we are good friends and have shared many conversations; I have Dan and Mike Smith on speed dial, I am going into this conversation informed; continuing this thread is promoting strife in the Smith household by dragging Verlen into it; let the Sea Wind and Superior Expedition stand on their own merit.
Let it go.

Hi, Joewildlife. Verlen saw Scott's deep dish canoe, before he passes away. And gave Scott his blessings.

wow, things are complicated in canoeland.
Lets see...
There is Kruger Canoe, designed by the Master and built by the Watertribe's Elder.
There are also Superior Canoe, you can get it from Scott
and Inferiror Canoe, you can get it in WalMart
Did I get it right?
