I just saw on another site that WT'er Sawhorse aka Jan Gougeon went across the bar. Condolences to the family.

Now there was a true legend, what a legacy he and his brother created for all who work on boats.
Peace be with them.

My condolences. A legend for sure.

My realization of what Jan and Meade were doing for our sport became clear in 1979 when I opened up a copy of Multihulls magazine (still printed on that weird textured paper back then...) and saw an article on the construction of Slingshot.
In the same issue was a writeup on the wind turbine blades they were building, and how exacting they had to be.
That issue cemented (glued!) my passion for multihulls to my soul, and for his part in that, I thank Jan profusely.

Comdolances to Meade and the family. These guys changed the game for many of us home builders and inspired us with their ideas and how they kept going after "retirement."

Meade, if you read this, please know that we are thinking of you today and extend our most sincere condolences to you and your family. I'm sure it was wonderful to share so much of your life with your brother, and therefore all the harder to say goodbye.
With friendship

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Jan's passing. He was a great sailor and a great man and I am proud that he was a WaterTriber. I will pray for him, his family and his friends. WaterTribe will honor his spirit at the next Everglades Challenge.

Michigan iceboat superstar Ron Sherry says if everyone lived like Jan Gougeon, the world would have a lot more fun. On his death, Ron put together the following story to celebrate the man. Remember that Jan’s memorial party is on the 27th in Bay City, MI, and for a unique memorial for the rest of you, mix a jar of West System Epoxy at 7 PM Friday night with the rest of the Anarchists and toast a great man and a great life.
The complete letter is at Sailing Anarchy (scroll down a ways)

Thanks for posting that link to Sailing Anarchy, Bill. The letter really is a nice to tribute to Jan, whom I met but did not know. You have to go to page two now to see the letter.
One thing I loved right away about the Gougeon brothers was their showing up at the 2011 EC with Hot Canary, which had us all chattering, and then turning in a very nice performance and finish despite the fact that they are not youngsters and Jan was not in the best of health.
My condolences to Meade and the rest of the family.
