Talking About Adventure In Small Boats
A question probably more for Classes 2 and 3-- but anyone feel free to chime in: What sail are you putting on your kayak this year?
After five years of being an avid Pacific Action Sail user, this year I'm trying out Mick's Flat Earth sail.
How about everyone else?

With only one challenge finished Im still new here so please take that into account when you read my reply. During the NCC a small group of kayakers left from Beaufort around the same time to include myself. The 3 kayakers with feks or similar design outperformed me with my PAS. No matter what I tried they kept pulling away. They continued to sail or motorsail in conditions that my PAS could not.
Now BSD also offers a similar design and from what I'm told it also performs very well.

I have a brand new, unused, beautiful BSD 1M sitting at home here, if anyone would like to buy it from me 
BSD is top of the line when it comes to rigs and sails--no question. After much heart ache and 0200 self-discussions when trying to sleep I decided not to install it. And this is purely a personal decision.
Dave spent some time with me, encouraging me to put the mast aft of the cockpit, behind me, for the rig to perform better, with the rudder giving some leeboard effect. But as a sailor, I like to see my luff--that's half the fun.
If I had a Kruger, the BSD 1M would definitely be the way to go.

I will have two sails on my class 3 XCR canoe. The mainsail is a Balough 5 meter which I purchased after last year's Everglades Challenge. While the sail area is less than I had last year, the performance is better.
I also have a smaller 1 meter sail that I am just finishing up. This one is made from cuben fiber and looks pretty cool. I plan on using the 1M sail in the Wilderness Waterway when I take the 5M sail down. (I know... wishful thinking... the wind never blows the right way

Mick, Cuben Fibre has been used as a high preformance racing sail for some years, and was first adopted for the America's Cup in 1992. Far stronger and lighter then Kevlar, more UV resistant, waterproof, etc.
More recently, as I've mentioned in another post, it's hitting the ultralight backpacking market, as a UL tent, backpack and jacket fabric.
BSD will make your Balogh sails out of CF, if you want.

I know the cloth as pen graphite comp. it will be interesting to see how it holds up to the rigors and abuce we give our sails .
macatawa thats a good looking cut of a sail , it kind of reminds me of sumthing iv seen befor , the orfentic flat earth sails have a 18'' bridal of 4mm shock cord to mount the sheet on, this takes the vilence out of bullets of wind when thay hit the sail
