I was at a loss for witty comments...
Talking About Adventure In Small Boats
My money is on the rowboat making it to the finish line before the America's Cup boat for the EC/NCC/NCPC/OFUM. Plus a mere mortal can own the row-boat outright with money left over to buy a six-pack when the race is over.
Watertibers could re-create this video. Scissors running over BeastOarMan would be about the same effect. Come on CleanSlate, lighten up a bit. You gotta love a sailing vessel that can do 50 plus mph. Who cares how much it costs...it's someone elses money and we get to watch for free.
Whoa, Rocinante! I wonder who dreamt up that bone-headed PR stunt? Larry Ellison? How many more people are gonna die before this AC cycle is over? I'd be more excited if Larry were the guy rowing the gig, and I knew he had left his $31bills to finding a way out of Homo sapiens sapiens' "technology trap" problem
that he's contributed to and profited enormously from.
Larry could sail 50 mph -- even kts -- a lot more impressively if he went out and bought himself a $1,000 windsurfer, hired a top fitness guy and a top windsurfer as coaches, and flew his entourage to the speed ditch in Luderitz, SA. After that he could grow his beard long and use his same training and rig to win the EC, or better yet, the UFC. Then he'd be a slam-dunk for Sailing Anarchist of the Year!
Oh, come on DonKeyHoTey, lighten up a bit!
Lets remember that the AC. Has ALWAYS. Been about guys with money.
Lipton, Bic , Vanderbilt To name a few.
So LE isn't any different.
So sit back and enjoy the show.
PS. During the years that I sailed the old SORC,s. Several people were lost.
I don't remember an outcry to ban those horrible IOR boats. (Which are now considered death traps ) but were state of the art in the 80's
I bet a wee bit of sleuthing will reveal that is a photoshopped video. I think its kinda funny though and give them credit for the idea! After all, they could have used a kayak instead of a rowboat!
Meatloaf
Or an optical illusion. There's a chase boat parallel to the 72 that blocks the view to the row boat. I suspect the row boat went between the cat and the chase boat but not under the cat like it appears.

Per, have you sought professional help for your profound hatred of sailing billionaires? I'm guessing that your rich neighbor Bill Koch probably hasn't invited you over for a sail on his maxi yacht and cocktails afterwards at the Sailfish Club.
The first time you see the video is the best. OMG. What the hell.
Then you start looking at it. Becomes apparent that the row boat is between the chase boat and the 72.
A very long lens screws up the depth of field. I suspect there was way more separation than it looks like.
Still. Very cool. Maybe 10kts or 15kts of wind. (At most). The 72 is going ....????
I think they have to be going 20kts or so to foil.
