Hi all,

My wife and I are considering joining the NCC 2012 in class 4 with our cat rigged 16' sharpie skiff. The mainsail is 96 sq ft and even with two reefs, 49 sq ft, she is overpowered at anything above 25 mph. I am considering sewing a third row of reef points to get the sail down to get to 31 sq ft so that I can sail upwind more comfortably when the wind kicks up.

I don't want to spend a whole weekend sewing just to find out the boat won't point. I've done some searching on the web and asked around, but am only finding information about larger boats.

The boat is an AF3 designed by Jim Michalak. She weighs 250 to 350 lb and has a 4' beam which is a bit narrower than other boats her size.

Does anyone have experience with deep reefs on a boat like this?

Thanks
