    I am planning on entering EC2017 and looking around at gear. I was in West Marine today and saw the ACR ResQlink has a $50 rebate on it, making it around $200. Seems like a good deal. I was also looking at the McMurdo Fast Find 220 (6 year battery life) for around $220 on Amazon and a tiny Ocean Signal Rescueme with a 7 year battery life for $260 ish. I will be paddling a solo kayak so all these three seem small enough,

   Anyone any thoughts on these units ??

   I've got a ACR ResQlink + (same as the one you mention but larger because it is designed to float).  Seems like a bulletproof unit, just a bit bulkier than some of the others.  I don't think you could go wrong with an ACR.

   I have owned the ACR ResQLink (more compact, non-floating version) since it came out and have been very happy with it. I also had the previous generation ACR unit that was much bigger. It used to be that each generation was significantly smaller and I always upgraded, but size is pretty much a non-issue now. For me a PLB is all about trust and reliability, so I prefer ACR due to my personal experience, but I have friends in the UK who swear by the McMurdo Fast Find as well.

   FWIW I primarily use this in a kayak and prefer the more compact, non-floating units (PLB, VHF, etc) to save space and always have them tethered, but this is just personal preference.

   Ocean signal. Smaller and better battery life. 7 years instead of 5 or 6. Same price as a mcmurdo or acr.

   For those who want to stick with ACR due to past history and reliability, here's a new wrinkle: ACR has recently acquired Ocean Signal.
