Pelican appears to have just left Key Largo! He was there about 29 hours. Does anyone know the story? Go Pelican!

Maybe he made a mold and poured a new Hobie hull.
I thought my luck was bad, but he must need new seminar material. I cannot wait to hear his saga from this one. I am so glad to see him making progress.
Come on Pelican! Slow and steady!

He's approaching Arsenicker Keys now. I sure hope it's high water because that area can get really really shallow ... not good for mirage drives ... hope he picks his way through ok. AlexO and I did a trip out and around all those keys in Nov ... "walking the boat" was part of the process.

I talked to him yesterday afternoon. He was able to get a room when he pulled in the other night. He had some slight repairs to make on the boat (and his thumb) and was taking care of those and then decided to stick around and rest for a bit since the winds had shifted. I spoke with him around 6pm last night (Tues.) and he was planning on sleeping and then getting underway around 2am??? He said that the skin on this thumb was finally starting to grow back and he thought a few extra hours out of the water might do it some good!! The boat is holding up and the people at Hobie are amazed that he even made it down there. Apparently the boat was not made with the intention of hanging out in sustained winds like what everyone experienced last week! I guess that they figure most people have the good sense to either not go out on the water in those conditions or to get back in as soon as possible :o) Anyway, he seems to be in good spirits and is hoping that the upcoming leg of the trip has more weather and winds working with him.

Perhaps Hobie ought to reconsider putting "Adventure" in the name of the craft if they expect us adventuresome types not to go adventuring about in one!

The Hobie Adventure Islands are very capable boats !!! This was proven this EC by the three boats that finished in the top 10. Most novices carry TOO MUCH SAIL when the winds get high causing the amma to dive and push up a lot of water. It is better to be conservative on this type of boat. Nick has spent considerable time on these boats and I am sure he is aware of the capabilities. If I could get a month off from work I would be right next to him in the UFC in my trusted AI...
