Packed up, boat is on the car!
I too am leaving in the morning, look forward to seeing everyone.
Cheers FeralCat
Feralcat.. if anyone is ready, you are. Predicting your great success this year thanks to extraodinary effort in the derby. Have a great race!
The boat and gear is packed. My wife (Wally) is on call... she should be home by 8am, hopefully we can have the kids in the car by 930am and see you on the beach, after I launch from the ramp, by 1pm.
Ahhh, chaos.
Absolutely no wind!
It is going to be a long day (or two)
I learned two things in the OFUM.
1. Pay attention to the navigation. I accidentally took the wrong channel at what I thought was Wry Island but was some other island. I then proceeded to circumnavigate it unsuccessfully looking for the checkpoint. I then figured out the error of my ways and found the true course and did the true navigation. My mistake cost me a couple of hours and a lot of wasted energy. I think some other people made that same mistake as well.
2. A hammock would be nice. I was actually intending to camp for a few hours with my tent but couldn't find a suitable place to pitch my tent. That Lind-of left me no option except to push on to the finish. With the very light wind, my navigation error, and paddling to all sorts of places looking for some high ground, I didn't get to the finish until around 5:00 AM. At least I finished earlier than if I would have camped.
It is really weird but when I looked at my SPOT tracking, I did not have a navigation error leading to an unnecessary circumnavigation of the wrong island. It all must have been a hallucination. It is hard for me to believe but the technology says what it is. A tired mind can definitely play tricks on you.
Jeff, your track looks perfect. Check your GPS data and see what it has recorded. Unfortunatelly the tracker no longer allows you to pull down time data. Show Tracks and All Waypoint only gives you speed...What kind of medication were you taking to stay awake...
