Is it kind of a generic construction adhesive, or does it have some special properties?
I have used a lot of PL Premium for various projects with great success. I have actually heard of people using this as the sole adhesive for constructing a boat :)
As far as a more standard marine adhesive, 3M 4200 and 5200 have a long history. But be warned, if you use 5200, don't plan on ever taking apart what you put together
Thanks, Macatawa. They're marine sealants, with good adhesion to fibreglass.
I have a few more holes to drill in my boat, and fittings to add.

Actually, there is a product called "Anti-Bond" which liquifies 5200. I have used it to remove a bowsprit and hardware from a sailboat.

I've used Sikka-Flex 292 to bond the stainless steel keel wear strips on my NorseBoat with great success for something that is submerged below the waterline for four months out of the year.

I spend time on a number of reverse trike (2 front 1 rear wheel motorized highway capable vehicles) boards, and, as it turns out, some forms of Sika-Flex are so strong they are bonding together aluminum chassis with them, as does Lotus (not sure of the brand or composition of the adhesive Lotus uses).
I am a firm believer in adhesives without mechanical fasteners in many applications, especially on boat hulls. In fact, a composite hull technically IS an adhesively bonded structure using no fasteners.
I dropped a note to Lotus Engineering. We'll see...
Goodmorning,
if your just sealing in the sail fitings, it wont need to be construction grade, you may wont to un do the nuts and bolts at a later date,, you can youse other selants as long as ther free from eny silicon as silicone contaminates glas fiber, and if you need to repear wher its been near you end up with a real buger of a job to get enything tostick . I sumtimes yous a product caled sellies all clear its a urithain bace silent and is avalabel in 200g tubes
duglas Willcox youses no more nails as a selant , if your after a permanant fix its OK , another I like is a stuf caled shoe goo its for repering sports shoe soles , and works realy well , its like aqua seal which is also good for the job of fiting deck hardwhear
I received a response from a manufacturer of delightful and superb handling vehicles. The generic answer - Yes.
It was recommend to contact SIKA USA at http://www.usa.sika.com
I tried calling to reach an applications engineer to discuss SIKAFLEX, but could only get a voice-mail where they said they can respond very soon.
You can call SIKA USA @ 800-933-7452 for the general construction customer service line. Or look at the website above for product FAQs and selection.
