New this year is an Inspection Team made up of veteran WaterTribers who are not participating in the 2015 UM or EC. This team will do the inspections for first timers or those who haven't completed a Challenge. If this applies to you, as soon as you have your gear ready for inspection please look for an Inspection Team member on the beach. You will receive the inspection sheet when you register. Team members will be carrying clipboards and are happy to answer any questions about required gear.

Veteran Challengers may still complete their own inspection sheet and place it in the designated box near registration. Please remember to sign the form before placing it in the box.

PaddleDancer,

For the gear inspection, do you prefer us to have our equipment laid out on the beach or packed into our boat? I tried to find a video or discussion of previous years but didn't have much luck.

Squirrly,

It feel it is best to have your gear on a tarp near your boat layed

out in the same order as the inspection sheet with

dry bags open and accessible. This expedites the process.

From what I have seen last year, your inspected gear needs to be

what Chief has listed on the required gear list.

I witnessed participants having to leave the beach and return for basic stuff like fleeces, beanie hats, flares, etc.

Runs with Beer and I will be available on Friday to do inspections for Class 4. It's always easier and quicker if you have your required gear organized either on your boat or on a tarp on the beach. We may also ask you about your reefing systems and your ability to use them. We're hoping for knowledgeable answers. Then we'll see all of you as you pass through CP 2. Good luck.

SquirrelyPaddles...what OysterSlayer and ExcitableBoy said. ;-) Whoever does your inspection will go down the list and ask to see each item. Having it displayed so you may point out that you have it is quicker and let's you get packing as soon as the inspection is done.

What I didn't mention is that each inspector will be inspecting Classes they are most familiar with. Here is the roster:

Class 1, 2 and 3
NiteNavigator
Santiago
Whitecaps

Class 4, 5 and Hobies
ExcitableBoy
Iszatarock
RunsWithBeer
SailBirdMike

Class 6
Chief

There are around 50 boats to be inspected by the Team. Any questions?

I assume we can place boats and gear after the park opens Friday morning? What's the rule and/or path to drive from the parking area to the beach? I saw some backing right up to the beach and some carting last year.

Boats may be moved to the beach AFTER forms have been turned in at Registration, which begins at 10am. Class 4, 5, 6 and Hobies may use an access road that is by the ranger station to access the beach. All who use this road are asked to unload vessel and gear and move their vehicle/trailer back to the parking lot as soon as possible. There are 82 vessels in these categories, so we need to make room for everyone. All Class 1, 2 and 3 will be carried from the parking lot to the beach.
