While riding my bike over the small bridge on the north end of Pine Island I smelled woodsmoke. Looking over the edge of the bridge the bow of a canoe came drifting into view. There was a homemade bamboo sail rig in the bow, deer skull with antlers mounted to the midship thwart, a large cast iron pan was blalanced on the after thwart with an open driftwood fire and contained a smaller pan with what looked like plantains and sausage, and finally a crusty looking man who was paddling this whole operation. Cooking over an open fire while paddling is impressive and I knew I had to meet the man. I struck up a conversation and the Man was happy for someone to talk to. About 45 seconds into the conversation it was clear the Man suffers from probably multiple mental disorders. There were lucid moments but they didn't last long, anyways I wished him well on his journeys. The next day I was going for a sail and on the way out saw the man again, this time paddling in the direction of my hood. Hmm better check out the web address on the side of his canoe. It goes to a blog where what jumped out at me first where the number of people asking him to seek immediate mental help. Uh Oh! Then a quick call to Mrs Mullet to lock the door until I get home. The blog is pretty much the rant of a lunatic but I did get his name and google that. Seeing others prospectives when meeting the man was interesting and there are newspaper articles about him. The man has led an interesting life and has actually paddled all over the country. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1996 and the only run in with the law seems to be over his former proffessors tying to break all contact, so he doesn't seem to be a danger to others. I posted this because he will probably be along the route during the race, he can be a little intense so avoid a canoe with Infinityproject written on the side if the unhinged bothers you. If you are up for a challenge strike up a conversation then sit down and strap yourself in for a wild ride. His name is John Lawrance Kanazawa Jolley. DWM

My immediate thoughts to Duckman post in order of arrival:
* A kindred soul.
* A bittersweet encounter of the real third kind.
* I wonder if John has ever been a govenor? (ref Florida writers)
* DWM seems a very kind person whom I must seek out.
* John! John! Listen Brother. Get back on your meds, then continue to live life large to the beat of your very own regulated drum. Be not afraid my son, chose the way of the meds. Hear me John, (sigh), hear me, please.
