Talking About Adventure In Small Boats
Hello everybody. Quick question regarding the options for long term safe parking at the Flamingo marina in the Everglades National Park.
Still looking for partners for a crossing from KW to DT and back.
Thank you.
If you park 2nd row back by the Ranger's station, you should be good for an extended leave. Or there is ample parking away from the Buttonwood Canal ramp side.
Just check in with the Ranger's station so they know you are leaving for an extended period. They will advise you of a "safe" place to leave your vehicle for an extended period of time.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Once again, is there anybody thinking of a KW to DT roundtrip at the end of December? Two kayaks could be safer than one...
Are you planning on launching from Flamingo? Denise and I will be paddeling in the area for the last week of December and the first week of January. Not sure if we are in for KW to DT but could join you for parts along the way.
good luck
We always launch from Everglades City and this time we wanted to spend more time around Flamingo, eventually cross to the Keys at Tavernier. That was plan A, but without any feedback on the safety of the parking lot at Flamingo, we might go to plan B parking again at Everglades City and having fun all the way to Highland Beach and Broad River.
Plan C was to park the car in KW and try this extremely appealing round trip to DT. (or Cancun, if we drift and miss it...lol)
We are going to be launching from Chokoloskee and sail to Flamingo and back. We will be launching probably December 22nd or 23rd, and hope to be back in Chokoloskee the 29th or 30th.
Maybe see you down there.
What will you sail? What should we look for to recognize you?
DoiNomazi- I can help you with parking in Marathon. Straight shot to East Cape about 30nm. Not bad if you have some east winds. I manage a marina there and we have a floating dock you can launch from. I made that trip in a Hobie TI and it took about 10 hours with light winds. Love your videos by the way!

Thank you very much, Randy. Marathon seems a bit too far West for a round trip to the Everglades. Driving to and from too...
Islamorada, or Tavernier, would be better, but where do we park and camp fhe first night?
It is almost strange there is no info on long term parking at the Flamingo Visitor Center.
Thank you once again.
I have parked at zflamingo many times in the last 40+ years. Since it is ~50 miles into the park and park service people live and work there, there has never been a problem. Remember that coons nd birds will go after any available food, so secure it.
That's music to my ears. We always park at the Everglades City end and we never had any problems. Water loving folks seem to be very good people too..:)
Thank you.
Are Carl Rossi and Little Rabbit open this year?
The ENP web site indicates Little Rabbit is open; Carl Ross is not open for camping.
