Seeing as how I just got my brand new, first off the shelf Escape Bivvy Bag from Adventure Medical Kits and having fielded probing questions from my wife, this post had significant meaning for me.
a couple of things come to mind..........
Chief, have you tried out your Escape Bivvy? I'm thinking about replacing my older Adventure Medical Kits bivvy.
I have the Escape Bivvy and will be sleeping out in the rain soon. We have a very slow drip going on right now, but I would like something be bit better for a first test.
Nice! Just heard thunder. If it keeps up till tonight . . .
It is heat reflective and breathable, but it is only water resistant. I want to see exactly what that means. My guess is that it would work good if augmented by some sort of shelter from direct rain.
When packed it is in a roll with a diameter of about 4.25 inches and a length of about 7 inches. Dry weight is 8.5 ounces.
I have the escape bivy and was disappointed. I need waterproof for it to function as an emergency shelter which is what I wanted. Water resistant isn't good enough. For the UFC, knowing Alan and I would be sleeping on the trimaran trampoline a good bit I ended up buying REI's minamalist bivy http://www.rei.com/product/794291/rei-minimalist-bivy-long at $109, both breathable and waterproof, and with netting closure around the face for bug repellant. We had our sleeping bags inside it, but not our mats. It also folds very small. The only potential thing wrong with it, is that there is not a fabric cover over the mesh so that you could be totally enclosed if needed (but the escape bivy doesn't have that either).
