Thanks Greg! Just tried it out during lunch and it works perfect. Main Menu/Setting/Page Sequence/ and insert and remove pages as you want. Exit out, and pushing the back key toggles through the pages you've inserted. This is major useful function for me! You can also remove the MAIN MENU page from the toggle thru items! Since on a roll, do you have idea how to pull up the Tide and Current functions without going through the "Where to" sequence (getting greedy now)

Bermudaboy,
Sorry, I don't know how to get this without using "Where To?".

Just converted my laptop to windows 10 (clean install) and have lost all my gpx garmin files, anyone know where garmin stores these files/cache? Trying to search for them now.. Good news is I have pretty much all the same albeit organized different on my home Mac Homeport...

Without mentioning intent as not to get Lawless shootin canons from the "Battery" at me..
., does any windows-tech savy triber know how to create a "virtual sd port"" on a hard drive?
Posted 5 years ago # -
One thing about Homeport is that it does not care if you use the original SD card. You can copy all the files and directories to new SD card and just leave that one in your computer to play with Homeport and leave the real one in your GPS where it's less likely to get damaged from frequent removal or lost. As long as you don't lose your entire GPS that is.... Right Tony? :)

Not to incriminate myself about losing vital equipment or misuing data, but my wife keeps taking my sd out of the computer (s) and placing it somewherez always hard to find, which got me thinkin, maybe if i can copy the information on to a "virtual sd" port on the harddrive, where the data can sleep soundly... FTR, I now have two Etrex 20's that I carry so they don't feel lonely. BTW, finally organized all my GPX data into event folders and folks, and now have a Folder called MM.

Sort of got me thinking from SB's advice on the navigator tool today.. Anyway, in Homeport in preference options I know can set the headings to auto mag variation, but can't find where you actually display the compass rose on the display?
Guessing the display compass rose does not exist? Anyone know? Like most of what I'm looking for, not very important just wanted to know cuz I like to print out my actual charts from Homeport, and bind em in a book... Ah heck if I could keep a heading within 5 degrees in the (for even a few yards) guess it might be even be important..
Another question on HP, when you right click on a route, a little information flag comes up with route title, distance, time based on boat profile, gallons of gas, etc, is there a way to change the defaults on the displayed flag information so you can set to show true or magnetic heading...?

Chuck's Nav-Aid works real well with bound book size charts. For EC there is almost no variation. So align the edge with the edges of your paper assuming you are north up, put the center over a spot you want to be, stretch out your string and you have course and distance ( assuming you have calibrated your string. Takes me longer to type this.

BB, I am no HP expert - but my display shows the compass centered on the bottom, and prints it top left. Maybe it is my version - 2.2.5 for Mac.
Also, if I double-click a route I get a pop-up table (not sure if this is what you meant?), and if I select the Trip tab, it shows the Course heading between waypoints. Setting up my boat speed and putting in layovers gives me ETAs for every waypoint. I can print this out, and have the whole trip spelled out for me. But that would be depressing since I will never hit those times, so I only use it for playing what-if.

BeastO: I get a compass wheel (N,E,S,W), but not a compass rose showing the true & mag, like on typical noaa chart... Is yours like the typical NOAA rose? I get what your saying on the popup and table, but I was trying to get the bubble flag on the route leg itself, so when I print out the chart it shows those, the measure tool showed some potential but info box (distance & heading) it disapears soon as you take your hand off the mouse, so can't line up a bunch of these prior to image grab/ printing. Thinking maybe best is just use the do the image grab, and then add the magnetic course heading in MSword before printing. Below is example of what I would like to have on each leg (this is the measure tool) (sorry I can't get images to showup in the forum)
Posted 5 years ago # -
Actually, just noticed that does work either, on the example when my hand is still on the mouse it shows the correct mag heading of 129, but soon as you stop to take the picture grab, it just switches from the mag heading and display the deviation of 5.2 for that area...

meant: doesnt work...

BB,
The only partial-solution that I can think of is what BeastO said, double click on the route with the arrow (select tool) to display the route properties, and then click on the "trip view" tab. If you have your settings set to magnetic, then you will see the distance and magnetic course for each leg. You can print this and (manually) mark the route leg numbers on your output.
BTW printing the trip view information above is not intuitive. With the route information mentioned above shown on the screen you need to use file->print, select print preview, and then press the next page button until you get to the route information.

BB you are correct, not really a compass rose.
Greg, I am not in front of it now but as I rrecall the pop-up window has a utility menu (gear icon on Apple), with a menu that includes Print. Can also select the table cells and copy into excel etc.
have not figured out how to leverage Fuel consumption attributes but there must be something ...All fun stuff on cold winter days in New England. Tomorrow should be above 20F in AM so maybe will try to get on the water.

BeastOarman,
Interesting. You can see the PC version in my screenprint. I didn't realize there was different functionality between the PC and MAC versions. On the PC version there's no utility menu or other provision to print the route table directly from the route pop-up, or any provision to directly load the cells into Excel (that I'm aware of). That said, with the PC version you can print using file->print to print the route information, and copy to excel indirectly via an export, but not directly in the route popup.
I use the fuel consumption attribute to estimate water needed. Instead of fuel, I input my known estimate of liters per hour drinking water use for the temperatures that I'm expecting (gleaned from measuring the contents of my water container before and after training sessions). In that way Homeport will show you an estimate of how much water you need to complete a route.

Guys, here is example (NC2015) of the letter side charts I print out off of image grabbing (snipping tool) on window version at work, home mac version screen grab.. http://1drv.ms/1KYkgcq . Goal is not to get a table on the chart, but just to get nm # and magnetic heading displayed, just adjacent to multiple legs, then do screen capture/print, so easy to see.. (not all just the ones I think might be critical) Guessing not possible but haven't given up hope yet, if not will just measure and right them in on the print outs before weather laminating.
KV: very, very, very intrigued by your image above, it appears you have brought in GE imagery into HP, something I didn't know was possible, I am always doing the reverse, bringing HP into GE and using NOAA overlays, adusting transparency,,,, How do you bring GE into HP like that???
Been in 20's in the mornings the last few days, not much sailing, but getting in a lot of hard core, cross fit training...

BB,
What you are seeing is Garmin's Birdsye satellite imagery. It requires at $30.00 yearly subscription (per handheld device you wish to use it with) however once the subscription expires you retain the use of your images. In most cases the imagery is not as detailed as GE, but this is not always the case (see image of Shark River area below). I have only one subscription so have it on my primary GPS Map 78sc but not my backup.
You can view the imagery in Homeport AND on your handheld as you navigage, and enable/disable it as you wish. That said, the images appear dark on the small handheld screen so usually I use the regular bluechart for most areas. Download times are fairly slow. All said, it's not nearly as useful as GE but complements it and other tools. I find it useful for adding detail to small to moderate areas along my routes. Images are added in Homeport via the Utilities->Download BirdsEye Imagery menu.

For another example, here's a BirdsEye image at maximum zoom, of the Crocodile Dragover area. Images make it very easy to see the shallow Florida Bay channels for creating routes. Images are renewed/improved over time. I just downloaded a number of images for Florida Bay as they are sharper than what was available last year.

Cool KV. Thanks, I had not idea about that! I have learned a lot from you and really appreciate all your input and advice!

Water consumption, I like it !
Here is the Mac version. I mis-spoke, there is a Print button next to the Utility menu. Also to clarify, for Excel I meant you highlight the rows, copy (ctl-C or edit-copy) and then paste into a workbook.
BB, do you mean the name of the waypoint that shows next to the flag? If so, a bit tedious but I think you could copy/paste the heading as part of the name. Double click the flag and it will let you edit the name. Unless I am not understanding, which would be par.

Sorry guys for all the hassle... Here is image of the info-flag I am referring to. Wish I could edit what info is displaced with this. This flag pops up when I select and right click a route.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Interesting, I don't seem to have that. But if I go to my chart shown above and click on the info tab, there is a summary that shows what you have - and a Notes field. I wonder if you put something in your Notes field, might it show where you want?

Ok not sure if changed in GE Pro, but in regards to jumping back and forth, say starting a route in homport, selecting then auto viewing it in GE, editing it base on lastest historical photo data and hopefully latest NOAS raster chart semitransparent overlay, and EDITING THE ROUTE IN THIS ENVIRONMENT EASILY, then saving as Kmz and importing back into HP... I noticed or think that the GE Route editing tool in this case has become much easier (maybe just in GE Pro?). Here the steps I confirmed L
1) When GE pops up with HP view of the selected route, RIGHT click on the route and choose Get Info and Infowindow will popup. Leave this window open the entire time, and save and close when yr done and happy with your changes. DO NOT LEFT CLICK ON ANYTHING until you read #2.
(2) Golden rule: before you select or left click on anything, understand that your very FIRST LEFT CLICK will determine your fate and level of success or iritation. To start, first alway put the pointer atop a dot (wp node) on the route you wish to modify. This means the dot you are going to left click must be in front of the part of the route segment you wish to modify. (in front of means from the start direction of your route). Follow the same rule later when you jump to a different segment of your route you wish to modify.
3) Left Click that dot, and now you can do various things, like adding segments with that segment by just clicking at some location to either right or left of the segment, adding dots in the segment, and dragging and moving any of the dots.
-left click to the righ or left of the section of the route you wish to change and you will see it adds a new section and dot, make a mistake and just right click. Right click erases the previous thing you did or segment prior if you keep right clicking,
-set pointer on route segment say in the center an left click to form a new dot exactly on location on the segment, now click and hold mouse button and you drag the point to say around that shoal, that wasnt there last year.
-if you disobey the Golden Rule, you will note that when you left clicked that first time not on a dot GE has just added a segment route line from the last dot on your route to where you just clicked, right click to erase and follow the Golden Rule.
-remember to save your changes in the INFO prop window before closing out by just pushing the OKbutton.
-Then save as Kmz and then import backinto HP...
