Chief:
The rules provide that:
d. Class 4, 5 and 6 boats that cannot make it across the picnic area by cart or by being carried by one or two persons may be paddled, motored, or sailed to the beach from the water. Registered participants may help other participants slide their boats up to the starting point, but the boat may not be lifted. Rollers or other aids may be used within the park rules (no digging of holes and no attaching lines to trees), but all launching devices must be removed before the start.
e. If the race manager gets park permission trailer unloading from the park road will be allowed for classes 4 and 5. Most years this is OK. There still will be no lifting of boats, but rollers and sliding are allowed.
Any decision on which method will be allowed this year? Is it okay to take non-crew on the trip from the dock to the beach? That might be a nice way to thank friends and sponsors.
FWIW, if offloading from the beach road isn't allowed, I'm planning on two heavy duty sets of wheels to try to haul Oaracle (300-350 pounds stripped) over the park sidewalks & grass to the beach. Others are welcome to borrow them when I'm done. I also have six fenders for rolling over sand and may have some 2 x 4s for under the rollers.
Logistically, it seems the time elders spend moving their boats to the start from the dock might cut into the time for and create a bottleneck in the inspections of the new participants. That's something that might need to be addressed.
Not advocating either way here; just trying to think ahead.
