   FYI as it relates to drones:

   No drones may be launched or flown from anywhere in the Park. Including from on the beach.

   Pinellas County Ordinance 90-7 (q)

   "Aircraft. No person operating, directing, or responsible for any airplane, helicopter, drone, glider, hang glider, hot air balloon, dirigible, parachute or other aerial apparatus, including those radio controlled or otherwise unmanned, shall take off from or land in or on any county-owned or managed land, except for purposes of public safety or where written permission has been obtained from the administrator or designee."

   I know that I, for one, would feel a lot safer with an "eye in the sky" patrolling for potential "threats"... you know, things like bad hombres, land sharks, sand snakes, mimes, etc. Happy to testify to that effect at the trial of any cited drone pilots. But then again, I am...

   If one were to launch and pilot a drone from a boat in the bay, would the drone fall under the restrictions of this ordinance?  It seems the orndinance prohibits launching from and landing on county owned and managed land.   Do bay waters constitute county-managed land?

   The quick answer is no. Even the wording of the ordinance makes it clear "No person operating...shall take off or land on any county-owned or managed land...."

   The open water is not county land, or anyone's "land" for that matter with some rare exceptions that don't even exist in Florida. Waterways and the land underneath them are public trust land. Which means that the entirety of the public has the right of access. There are some exceptions, usually military-related waters, which is important in the NC events. There are some places in the original 13 Colonies (Florida is not one) where the land is owned by "King's Grant" meaning that the ownership of the land, including marshes and in some instances waterways, are in fact still private property because the title to the land has not been disturbed since before the United States was founded. The owners still enjoy the rights to the land (including underwater land) as it was granted by the monarchy of England. These places are rare, but they do exist.

   I saw a drone flying along the beach yesterday. Or maybe I hallucinated it. But my brother seemed to share the same hallucination and all we had was coffee.
