So sorry to see KiwiBird unable to make the EC this year, it won't be the same for us without her. She had always made our camping reservations at DeSoto for Thur and Fri night. Does anyone have space on thier site for a tent and car. If so, SOS and I would be glad to cover the cost of the site.
Thanks,
Dawn

Thanks Sundance, see you there. Expect to arrive around 6pm in time to go for a quick dinner than stop at the party. There is a party right? Hmm, it's not at your site is it?

The Park Rangers have threatened to evict me the last two years because of the party so we're not planning on hosting it this year.

Wonder if we couldn't use that screened in lounge for the party. But it's likely the alcohol that was the problem.

Well, now that you mention it, Ranger Chris told me in the summer that they are diligently enforcing the no alcohol in the park rule. Rangers and camp personnel are aware there has been a party in the past on Thursday pre-race and will be watching. Sorry...I know it's been a tradition. :-/

What if we called it a "Hydration Event" and told everyone to leave their headlights off?

We could go off site, local salty establishment; though that does create an abyss for those showing up at different times through out the evening. I'm just an idea man, well parking lot greeter and idea man.

Check out http://www.tampabaywatch.org. They are located just before you enter the Park on the left. They presented at the recent TBSK meeting and said they have facilities, outdoor and indoor, for events. Not sure what the cost would be. If there's enough interest I could go talk to them next week. It's within walking distance of the campground. Let me know.

That looks like a great place, but guessing it is expensive. Worth finding out, though, since I'm sure they have nothing going on for a Thursday. Maybe if we do a BBQ on the deck or lawn it can work out to a nominal fee per person.

I'll drive out there tomorrow or Tuesday and get the scoop. Stay tuned.

Thanks Paula, a pre Challenge get together is so nice, getting to see old friends and make new ones, especially with all the excitement of the coming adventure.

Curious what most folks do since camp sites seem tough to come by? Grab a hotel near by or ask to share another tribers site?

Many reserve months in advance. If you miss out you can post to share.
A number of us stay at the Hampton Inn, especially Friday to get one last rest. But prices have sent others looking for other hotels. Friday your boat/board will be packed, so if you camp you either need to get up early and repack, or you need to bring duplicates.
Hampton Inn is on a main road with Walmart etc, very handy but more than a few miles.
