Always wanted to do this race. Anyone know how I can rent/borrow a fast boat in the Boston area?

Hi JungleJim,
Oh, can't wait to see you at Blackburn! We'll be there (ZippyChick and SeaHare). Carl Ladd is the owner of Osprey Sea Kayaks: http://ospreyseakayak.com/. They're in Westport, Mass--not super close to Blackburn, but not too far away, either.
You could easily fly into either Providence or Logan, rent an SUV, and pick up a boat from him.
There's a shoutout to Osprey in this blog post http://windagainstcurrent.com/2012/05/28/where-the-wild-rocks-are-rock-gardening-in-rhode-island/
Good luck, and let us know how you fare!

JJ, what vessel do you desire?

Another Watertriber doing the Blackburn! Excellent! This'll be my fourth year doing that race. What craft do you intend on racing with?

@SeaDawg, not sure if that question was fo rus or JJ, but I'll answer :-). This'll be year five for us. SeaHare races his trusty Feathercraft (yes, really) and I'll be in my Tiderace Xplore-S. I've done it twice in a Valley Avocet, but the Tiderace is faster...There is a woman who races a wooden boat who's like the wind, though. She always beats me.
May be a Watertriber, in fact!

Seems like more of us do the Blackburn than we may have realized. I've rowed it probably 4 times or more, and kayaked last year. LeatherLungs and CliffJumps have also done it.

Scareman, I may have found someone to bring my boat up North, but if that falls through I’m looking for something long and skinny. I currently paddle an Epic 18.
