It looks like the Stewarts are having some family time tonight camping together on Phillips Island.

Saturday I paddled about 45 miles, to Beaufort with KiwiBird, Cleanslate , and Rambler, then on to Philips Island in Newport River to camp. SOS and DancesWith SandyBottom arrived just after I did and we all camped. I originally thought I'd camp on Bells Island before Beaufort, but with the wind, we were so fast, it was too early to stop (my max speed on GPS read 10.3 mph).
I had taken the sail down as I got to Bells, then paddled off, and pulled the sail up. It flipped me immediately. I'd practiced rolling with the FEKS but something was wrong with the sail, I couldn't get it to spill the water and eventually just bailed, doing a reentry and roll after putting sail away. Seems I lost a bolt that connected the boom to the mast, which gave me the trouble.
Paul and Alan decided to sail under big bridge in Beaufort then go up Core Sound, and camp at thorofare. I paddled through Harlowe, running into Puma as he came out. Quite a slog against the tide, and with headwinds funneling down canal. I camped off the Neuse at Great Island about 16 miles. Paul and Alan and I planned to connect again at Turnagain Bay, another 16 miles, maybe camp together. Instead I just got on Dawn Patrol, we towed my kayak and sailed back to the Driftwood. All great fun. Not a Challenge but a great vacation .
