Dogs, don't let CaptnChaos fool you. I know he has that intimidating logo, and he's talking about all that extra weight. Just focus! You can do it!
Go Dogs!

No new spot data for dogs life since just after midnight. His spot must have reset. Anyone have his link? Any news? He must be in the bay.
Posted 9 years ago # -
I was just thinking the same. Not like him to stay in one spot for long.

Excellent video compilation! The variety of scenes teaches much about desired qualities for different conditions. It reminded me of how important it is to design the bow of my new boat to avoid getting that wet. That video led to your 2011 first day video. Though it took much longer to get to CP1, I was impressed you could even get there by 2 AM when I had all I could to sail/paddle half as far in the calms. Did you peddle-sail much of that day? -- Wade

This year was completely different from the two previous Challenges. The following winds made for some very fast passages with pure sailing. As you can see from the video it was a very wet an cold ride. This year I removed the spray dogger from my inventory before leaving home since I did not use it the two previous years. Big mistake. Sitting high in the constant spray just sucked the heat out of me. Not peddaling also made me colder.
The 2011 and 2012 races were all head winds. The Hobie Islands point much better into the wind if you do a steady pedal stroke. Much more exhausting and demanding on the body.
Chief said one out of four years has perfect conditions. Three down. Next year I am bringing pleny of suntan lotion and my speedos...

DogsLife,I am curious how you get the audio to come out so well. I recently got the GPro Black and, when in the waterproof case< audio quality is pretty poor. Please tell...

we had the same issue, however once we loaded the clips into the computer a lot more came out with the volume up. Not great, and still couldn't hear conversations a few feet from the camera but it picked up more than we thought. Not like D'sL though.

With my GoPro2, I have only gotten good audio with it out of its protective case and with no wind.

I carry several cameras. The GoPro is no good for sound inside the watertight case. I only use it for wide shots of the boat. My primary camera is a Sanyo DMX-CA100Waterproof camera. I think Sanyo stoped making these. I like it because of the bayonet handle gives you steady shot and the screen flips to view your self when doing self shot. My backup is a Panasonic Lumix DCM-TS3. It takes nicer pictures and video but it is more of a photo camera. I also brought a full SLR and night vision hunting cameras for the Everglades that I did not use once I decided to take the outside route.
Acessibility to your camera is most important. Even I miss the great shots when the wave brakes over the top of you. I keep the Sanyo in my lifejacket pocket in hot sandby. The camera turns on in few seconds when the screen is flipped up. Now I attach the camera with a bungee to the jacket. Yes I have a couple of cameras at the bottom of the ocean.

I have just started shoting vidio, im wating for a go pro to arive, and curently yousing a contouer which is easy to youse, and has grate volume and just one slide to tern it on its on istantly with no worm up time. my old lumix takes grate vidio but only runs for a short time, no good if mounted away from your reach . Im also yousing ram mounts, ther realy worth looking at.
