Here are the point totals for the 2014 Derby competition. Please note that I have not checked this for errors and I have not decided if points should count if there is a DNF or DNS for the actual event tied to the Derby.

All that documented training! This is scarey. Whatever happened to resting up for a big effort, or even the age-old practice of sandbagging?

I like these derbies because it keeps me motivated, I get to compete with other ‘tribers outside of the actual challenges and they facilitate my workout accountability. However, if I had a voice in this decision, derby points for events that one is a DNS or DNF would not count towards the annual grand total. If they do, I will sign up for every single event with the intention of only competing in two…because I love the competition.

Valid perspective, cat. In that vein, seems to me there is a big difference between DNS and DNF. Which is totally different from DFL.

Anyway, I am good with whatever. Depends on who you want to include. For example, there are plenty of rowers competing on Concept2 who never see water. Could be a good whole bunch of virtual WTs in the wings.

I vote the Cats as Derby herders. Herding cats and all.

Beast, we are doing our best to recruit. The BeastOarwomen that blew past us the other week would be great additions!

Maybe ME, BO? I now know not just what "DFL" means (had to look it up), but feels like. Wouldn't improve if I used oars.

Speaking of which, I agree with your point about the significant difference between all those "D" acronyms. Just finishing a Challenge is the prime objective and metric for the Derby training, and should be thusly reflected.

Good point. Any DNS would not count, but maybe a DNF would. I still need to think about it.

It does'nt make sense to me to be able to log points in two different derbys on the same day. What about upping the maxium number of points that can be logged in a single derby for the day? Or maybe combine the derbys? As far as points counting even after DNF, I think it depends on how much you want the derbys to be their own event.

Ok so i should have said for the yearly total. Because of the award from the derbys, two derbys makes sense. And if someone entered both events, it makes sense to log points in both derbys. If that is the case a DNF should not count for the yearly total.

When I was earning the points there was no mention of any sort of yearly derby award, I am not bothered by not getting it, so remove the points...just please do not put back on all the weight that I lost. Now 180lbs from 248. They say the watertribe races are live changing and they are, for me it has been the derby too.

3 miles hiked this morning with a 30 lb pack at 3 am simiply because I felt like doing it. No other reason and no points recorded. My lifestyle has been altered.

Woohoo, you go Chief! I think you really ought to disregard the DNF derby points since that will zero out FeralCat for the year...and I win!!
