The perfect boat for you hard-core kayakers who might like to take a sailing break once in a while. A Current Designs Extreme (more or less the same as the CD Nomad), Kevlar edition. AND a Balogh BOSS sail and outrigger kit to suit. I think the sail is the 32 sq ft model. Let's see: a new, Kevlar Nomad is $3600, the BOSS 32, Harken is $1700. Would you think $2500 to be fair? (Gotta get some cash for my next EC entry!)

How old is your Extreme ? Seems like a fair price. How well did your rig function ? I should get my BSD schooner rig this week for my Extreme. Ordered the 36 and 18 combo. Looking forward to testing it and using on this year's Tip of the Mitt in MI. Royd

DWW, Don't know how old the boat it is, to be honest. Maybe 5 years? Not heavily used and stored inside best I can tell. Certainly a lot cleaner than my whitewater boats! BSD is probably 15 years old but only used a few times. Everything looks out of the box except for a few marks on the bilgeboard.
Can't say I worked out all the bugs in the rigging. I put the mast far forward to keep the iako out of paddle's way. But the sheet now messes with my head. Longer boom needed?
I planned to use it in ToM last year but got discouraged after a day run in 2-4' Lake Mich chop. That's when I remembered that I prefer sailing to kayaking whenever possible. You kayakers have my respect, for sure!
You're rigging your boat as a schooner, not a ketch? (Schooner, large mast aft. Ketch, large mast forward.) That's a lot of sail. You have better amas than the BSDs, I hope!

The 18 sq. will be far forward to provide the necessary air flow to the 36. The 18 is reefable to 12. If I have calculated things right, I can step the 36 forward of the cockpit with just enough room for paddle swing. I have the option of mounting two sets of amas, one set at the base of the 36 and the other independent of a mast aft of the cockpit. Going to test with one set first, then two and if not enough, will order the full length amas. My experience with the Extreme leads me to believe that it will get up and go with this rig. I may need a bigger rudder after the sea trials. My experience with 6 ft. + waves last year crossing Thunder Bay showed me that the Extreme handled the seas well but could not punch through them. Hoping the sails give me that capability. Of course, a stronger paddler than I might have worked. Royd

Iszatarock, to include a picture in a forum message you first need to upload it somewhere so it has a URL. You have to upload it by some other means. Then use the little picture tool control (to the left of the smilely face) right above the text edit window to type in the URL of the picture. That includes it in the forum message.

Hot rig! The Nomad is a fast sailing kayak. Old style BOSS can survive the FlC but you have the option to upgrade to the extreme boss to survive the weather face on the FLC. The extreme Boss will help you survive weather you do not expect. The last two years BSD Boss had no failures.
