For the first time in nine trips to the starting line I won't have Hammerstokes boat on top of the truck. I'm considering leaving the trailer at home and putting the TI on the top of the truck. Any other TI's going to Fort DeSoto on the cartop?

I've rusted out 2 vehicles (Ford Bronco, Toyota 4-runner) car-topping sea kayaks which had been used in saltwater. Since about 2000, I've had a galvanized trailer for my boats, and, more recently, a Trailex aluminum trailer. My current 4-Runner is about 12-yrs old and shows no sign of rust. It has never had a sea kayak on its roof.
People's experience varies. I live within 2 mi of Biscayne Bay (saltwater). Even my work tools, which have never been near saltwater, rust in a few years. I have tools out in the southern rockies which are 30 yr old and look like new. Coastal saltwater is a killer for ordinary metals. On the other hand, people claim they take boats out of salt water, cartop them, and don't have a problem. Those people usually live 50-100 mi inland from saltwater. They seem to get away with it.

I usually use the trailer, just thinking of cartopping to the EC so I don't have to worry about the trailer shuttle.

Just managed to single handed load the TI on to the top of the truck. There's something to be said for working smarter not harder. Looks like the trailer may stay home this year.
