I have a new FEKS 1 meter. Before I drill any holes in my DreamCatcher, anybody have any recommendations on how far from the very bow it should go. I understand that FEKS suggest 175cm from the center of the seat on the average kayak. That allows the sail to be more functional sailing but seems it would get in the way while paddling if stowed along the deck. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Falcon and Superior Expedition but same concept. It has to be far enough forward to be able to stow on the side of the boat below the rim and out of your paddle reach.

Thanks, I have been experimenting with it lashed to my deck. I found that I can bring it further back than what it needs to be. I put a nylon sock over the ends that are flaked and could interfere with the paddle stroke. Obviously not the fastest way to deploy the sail, but would be nice if the conditions will not allow sailing for several hours. For me to lash it to the deck and get it completely up under the coaming, I will have to mount it a couple of inches to the side of centerline. I don’t think this will prevent much of an issue sailing. It will make a huge difference in stowing the sail up under the coaming. Now I think the 175 cm forward of the seat will provide me room to swing the paddle from one side to the other side when switching my stroke. So that might be where it ends up, 175cm forward of my seat and slightly right of center.
Thanks,

I have a FEKs on my Dreamcatcher. I will take some measurements and send to you tomorrow. The most important thing is that you can reach the end of mast when stowed. It’s a long cockpit. You have to be able to unclip any bungees you have that store the sail around the mast, release it all from a bungee, and while pulling on the up haul you need to throw it up to get it started to get mast upright.
