At the start of the weekend we had 36 challengers that did not have a working SPOT.
Today we have 34 challengers without a working SPOT.
We are less than two weeks from the start. Let's get a push going to get all the SPOTs up and running this week.

I wonder how many of these 34 are renting? They probably won't get their devices until shortly before the event, right? Just wondering out loud...
BTW... I did some more testing of my SPOT 2 this weekend, and it is SO much easier to work with than SPOT 1
I am glad I upgraded as well!
I thought SPOT 2 could send OKs without interrupting tracking as Spot 1 requires. But after playing with my new Spot 2 last weekend I found that we still need wait for the ok to clear (20 min) then manually resume tracking. How dumb is that? It is very hard for me to think that much about my tracking device when I'm focused on sailing and navigating and I'm tired. I'll try my best but may not be able to continue with 4-6 hr OKs after cp 2. I don't want my family wondering where the heck I am because I forgot to resume tracking as happened last year. Maybe there's a trick I'm missing?
The new SPOT should send an OK without interrupting the tracking feature. The only thing I can recommend is that you start tracking right after you turn on your SPOT. Then hit the OK as needed and you should not need to worry about tracking - it should stay on. If you continue to have problems, contact SPOT right away.
Last year my son gifted me a DeLorme PN-60w GPS with a linked Spot. It has proven very reliable. There has been a lot of talk about possible interference from other electronics. The DeLorme, actually, has to be within 6' of it's Spot as the two are linked. The nice thing about this unit is you are getting a read out of all your Spot actions. It will tell you how many checkins have been sent and when. It resumes sending automatically. You also have a page that shows you your track off the Spot. Took a bit to get used to but, kind of like it now. I get about 20 hours of run time so, spare batteries are at hand. And, they both sit on my spray skirt, tethered, but constantly taking water. So far, no problems. Royd
I love the PN-60w. I have the PN-40 and when it bites the dust, dont see it happening anytime soon, I will upgrade to that. Do you have the Satellite Images mapping with it?
Chief, Thanks for the feedback. I guess I wasn't patient enough with my new SPOT. I tried it again this morning and found that, yes, it does revert to tracking after sending an OK. So that makes the 4-6 hr OK system much easier - even for a sleep-deprived, not-so-bright sailor.
Another point (if I understand this system correctly) about the frequent OK messages is that the default view on the tracking map is to show only Current Waypoints when viewing everybody. So the OKs will show up when the tracks don't. That makes it easy for friends and family to see approximately where I am even if their computer skills are a bit weak.
Hope the web site can handle the load this year! Thanks for all your hard work on it. Iszatarock
Actually your last known position is what shows by default. That could be Track, OK, Custom, or Help. Putting a mouse over the icon will give details.
