It's driving me crazy that nobody has bought this Loon!
I just did the Krugerhead 340 in 47:32 in my Loon. If this boat was in the Midwest it would be sold by now.

Joe,
I agree. It's 980 miles away from me, but I'm still considering making the drive.

Are there different size Loons? MicroTom sold one a while back and said it would be good for folks under 160 lbs? They appear to be the same boat. What am I missing? http://watertribe.org/forums/topic/sawyer-loon-1st-generation-kruger-for-sale-750

The reason Verlen designed the Monarch and later the Sea Wind, and didn't want the Loon to be built anymore, is that is doesn't have the capacity of the Sea Wind. Verlen packed heavy...and with a heavy load in the Loon, it becomes unstable (and dangerous, Verlen didn't swim) as the stern sits lower in the water. You can see pics of him loaded on expeditions in a couple of the books about him and his adventures. The Loon is also less seaworthy than its siblings. But no, there are not different sized Loons. I disagree with Microtom about the 160 pound paddler...In my beleif in paddler and gear is less than 300 pounds, the boat handles just fine, and the stern will not sink low in the water creating instability. I've paddled a Loon in a MR340 and the Krugerhead 340, and I weighed 190 at one time, and went expedition style, unsupported. The Loon is a fully capable boat for light expeditions, just not heavy expeditions like Verlen did. I wouldn't take my Loon on the EC but it could do it...but when I was in waves and weather that were pushing my ability, I sure was glad to be in my Sea Wind!
