It took me nine months to figure out how to write about our 2016 Everglades Challenge experience; http://robert-finlay-kayaklakemead-journal.blogspot.com/…/t…. When I finally did start writing it down, I had fun. Mostly, I had fun making the made up images and the maps. Love maps.

Excellent. But I have to admit when it finally dawned on me what your 'chafing issues' were, I winced. Damn, son!

I was wincing too John. I do a lot of that out there.

Enjoyed reading your account. Very interesting to hear how fast challengers approach the EC. Probably the most surprising part is that your boat was light enough to be blown into your tent! That's just not right. You need more gear! More water at the very least! Just kidding! Envious that you have your gear that light and efficient.
See you on the beach soon.

Tom, only you would catch the boat weight and do a weight distribution analysis - awesome! Years ago, I shared online our load plan for Sunshine, but that plan is so outdated now. I think now our kit is smarter. I know it's lighter and smaller. Anyway, these days it all fits into our center compartment, which of course on the beach, would allow the bow or stern to be blown around that pivot point.
Can't wait to see you on the beach again.

Thanks for the read. Seems as if the nine months that have passed has helped you forget or at least lessen the battles remembered with the winds:) Your decreasing SMG only nonchallantly indicates this fact but as you stated "But all we did was just paddle south and sleep a lot ", you had no intent to inform the reader of the truth. You guys accomplished much in your 2016 paddle down the coast.
Enjoyed your recap and glad the experience parted those dragons.

Great write up! It's always intersting to read the different approaches everyone tales during the event. This one is surely intense! On the other hand it's got me thinking there ought to be a whole other thread on prepping the boys', forget the pfd!!!

Bob, thanks for the write-up. The long time lapse just confirms that it's almost tougher to write-up an account of one's EC adventure, than it is to do the actual event!
I don't know if it's competiveness, stubborness, thirst for adventure or just masochism (or all of the above) that drives us to do this each year. Whatever the reason, the next one is just around the corner...
