These devices are very dependent on your batteries. I encourage everyone to install fresh lithium batteries Friday at inspection and carry at least one spare set of batteries with you. If your SPOT fails during the challenge, the first thing to try is another set of batteries.

Ultimate Florida Challengers should change to a new set of batteries at each Stage Point. Paranoia can be good.

I am hoping that my year old "new" lithiums were the issue. The SPOT2 died within a few hours. I will get a fresh batch and see if my SPOT2 behaves better.

I ended up calling SPOT. They said if the batteries are low you might have some problems getting out if there is a lot of fog. My batteries were fairly new so I don't buy that was the cause. I have used it two more times and have done several test and it seems to work fine. The only problem is all those tests were done with the thought it was a mounting problem or an operator problem. I just could not repeat the failure so I am still suspicious of the sea fog. On the swtich from the "OK " to back to the " Tracker" feature they said it normally takes 20 minutes for this switch to occur.

OK message came through immediately at 1:39 PM from my driveway. Maybe satellites just were not on my side this morning. Maybe that will

The tracking this morning at 5 AM seemed OK from my SPOT2, but I had 2 red lights through the process. Each red light went away after I pressed the tracking button. I walked my dog for 1.5 miles and am surprised nothing went through this morning.

I'll track tonight as I drive to dinner.

One thing I noticed is that the OK message goes out almost immediately if it has already acquired the satellites. Although the message has gone out the light can keep flashing for 20-30 minutes. Don't let that bother you because it seemed like tracking didn't miss a beat.

Yeah, I noticed that too... I'm really liking my SPOT 2 :)

I did some extensive tests in the last few days using two SPOTs. Both are the latest. All signals got out but I have not had dense fog or rain for testing yet. I did test in light rain with no problems. I am also sending from inside my car and inside my screened pool deck.

When I am in tracking mode I can press the OK or Custom button and it will send the message and then automatically start up tracking again. The old SPOT won't do that automatically.

	Scareman,

I just received my spot 2 and haven't transfered from the spot 1 yet. These are not dependable enough as your only source for coast guard rescue, so I carry my McMurdo on my life vest. I'm sure you have a PLB as a backup, but some WaterTribers don't have PLB's and should listen to Chief's earlier comments about having both devices.

Hope you get it sorted out as time is drawing near.

My SPOT2 did not update this morning after I checke the Mapper and MY Spot page.

I wanted to test the new updates from Chief on the tracker, but nothing updated on MY POT page. Nothing updated on the WaterTribe tracker either.

I have the replacement plan with SPOT, but will have to pay $30 for them to ship me a new one. At least I hope that includes shipping.

My 1 year warranty just expired a few days ago.

I checked my subscription with SPOT and it is current and will be autobilled.

I have 1 more chance to save my SPOT2.

Maybe at lunch I can get home and send an OK message, wait 20 minutes, and see if I get a SPOT update on the map.

I am not sure that I will have confidence in this unit for the EC.

	Hmmmmm. Stay tuned.
