Gary and Sally at Go2Outfitters were a big help to me this year as well. It's nice not to have to go all the way to Pinellas Park from Tampa for gear. They are located on US54 just a couple miles west of I75 for those coming south on the interstate. You can order from the website and pick up at the store on your way to Ft Desoto.

When you get in town you could stop at a very cool outfitter named Bill Jacksons. They have backpacking supplies and some dehydrated food as well as a lot of kayaking gear. It's a fun place to go and a few years ago was even listed as a destination in a popular book called "One tank trips".

freeze dried. You can pick up water along the way. You are dragging water all the way with ready.

Boil water and pour into pouch (3 minutes with jet boil).

In the 10-15 minutes it steeps pitch your hammock or tent. If cold or windy wrap the pouch in a fleece or towel while it steeps. Eat your meal out of the bag with a long handled aluminum spoon in your tent or hammock so you dont have to reach down inside it. Seal bag up and fall asleep.

I think we screwed up on the food and wondering if we should change at this late date.

We opted for the supermarket prepackaged meals that you just open and eat rather than the freeze dried ones that you add water to.

Yesterday we packed the boat with all ten tons of the equipment food and water for a trial , and for starters, I could hardly pick the front of it up to get it on the portage wheels. then when we paddled it, it was like paddling a slug.

I would like your thoughts on changing from the ready to eat to the freeze dried, figuring a total of 14 meals (there are two of us)

This is a reminder to me, again:

Remove packet from dehydrated food packs before adding boiling water.

Does anyone know which stores carry Mountain House or Natural High Foods like Target? I was expecting to resupply at Wal*Mart, but forgot they switched to Coleman single serving packs. Maybe adventure stores around Tampa near I-275, or on my way to Key Largo.
